Hiring Process Timeline

Written Test

The written exam is a 50-question multiple choice test. The exam is not meant to trick you or quiz you on technicalities.  There is an EMT exam and Paramedic exam. You should expect the exam to be difficult, but all knowledge is within the scope of a newly certified provider. The exam is written and evaluated by our field staff and consists of medical, legal, operational, pharmacological, and trauma categories. Some questions are concerned with current PA EMS protocol, we recommend you familiarize yourself with the protocol prior to testing.

Practical Exam

The practical exam is not meant to trick you. The exam is designed to be passed by a newly certified provider. The exam is not evaluated using national registry criteria. The exam will consist of skill stations, a medical scenario, a trauma scenario, and a triage scenario. The goal of the exam is to evaluate assessment, knowledge, and thought process, it is imperative that you verbalize your assessment and concerns to we can better evaluate you. There are different exams for EMT’s and Paramedics.

Interview

The interview will take place with the organization’s Chief of EMS and possibly other members of the management team and staff. Please be prepared to ask questions.

Medical Evaluation

The medical evaluation is a simple pre-employment physical and drug screen. Medical Rescue Team South Authority is not privy to your personal medical history.

Lifting Assessment

The lifting assessment is not an intensive or long process, it can and has been completes by men and woman of all statures. It is a pass or fail assessment, and is solely meant to evaluate safety, not performance, style, or time. The exam consists of various lifting assessments based on real EMS duties. No training should be necessary for this assessment.
